By Ron Gregory My parents were not much into going to church but my paternal grandparents dragged my four brothers and I into church whenever possible. I went to Sunday School and sat through countless sermons all the while wishing I were out playing baseball or doing something fun. I had better things to do on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings then attending church services. Thinking back, I am glad I did attend. Some of it did sink in. A seed was planted. I learned all the Bible stories, you know, Creation, Adam and Eve, Noahs flood, Moses parting the Red Sea, Jesus and the cross, and so on, not knowing sure what to believe. Because at the same time my school science classes were telling me something very different about who I was and how I got here. The schools pretty much had me convinced I evolved from a fish, which evolved from something even lower in a warm slimy sludge. They had me convinced I was a product of random chance events and no creator was involved or needed. I did not see much of a future beyond the grave. I did not feel good about this, but who was I to argue with scientific facts! In my early 20s (a long time ago), I began to question everything I was taught. I was torn between what I was taught in church and what I was taught in school. I decided someone had lied to me and I did not like it. I still did not fully understand the whole Christianity thing and why Jesus had to die on a cross. Nevertheless, I needed to know the truth about my existence. Was I the product of a series of random accidents, or did a Supreme Being place me on this earth for a reason? I wanted to know and had to know. I had a void inside that I could not explain. I had to know why I was here and what the future held for me. This set me on a quest for the truth. The first thing I did was to go to a local bookstore and search for the truth in the occult section. Surely I can find all the answers to life on these shelves I thought. Believe it or not I did, or at least the answers started there. Right there, in the middle of all the astrologers, soothsayers, and modern day prophets, was a book titled The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey. I bought the book, read it, and it completely changed the way I looked at life. I knew I had an exciting future an exciting eternal future, if any of this were true. After reading that book, I sat down and read Genesis. An unexplainable chill came over me as I realized that I was reading actual history and not ancient myths. It actually frightened me a bit, knowing without a shadow of a doubt the events really happened. I bought another one of Hals books titled The Liberation of Planet Earth, that went into great detail of who Jesus was and is, and why God had to become a man and die on a cross. Another chill came over me as when I knew it was a historical fact that Jesus actually rose from the dead. I finally understood Gods plan from creation to eternity. The lights in my head suddenly came on. It all made sense. I then set out on a journey to study everything I could find on atheistic evolution (the type of evolution taught in public schools in the USA), and creation. All the living things around me took on new meaning. I looked at them differently. I could look at a bird or ant and I could see incredible design and purpose. I studied, in great detail, the cardiovascular and vision systems of humans. I studied the workings of the simplest life form, the cell. I concluded the chances of atheistic evolution being the process of which life evolved on earth was absolute zero, not mention the origin of life springing up from non-life in some slimy sludge also being absolute zero. No, I am not a freak of nature, but one who has an exciting destiny in eternity, and placed here for a reason by a loving Creator. Since that day in the bookstore, I have been on an incredible and exciting journey and I have never looked back. Well that would be insane, but what about this? I know you want to kill my children, destroy my country, and erase all historical evidence of our existence, and I want to do everything I can to help you achieve your goals. Would that be the epitome of insanity? If the leaders of your country were doing these things would you cry out Treason? That is exactly what is happening in Israel today, and Israelis are left stunned wondering what can be done to stop the insane leaders who have wrestled complete control over the government, military, and economy of Israel. Ok so I am going too far you say another conspiracy nut. American President George Bush says I will bring peace to the Middle East. Wait a minute isnt he supposed to be a Christian? Isnt Jesus the only one who will ultimately bring peace to the Middle East? Isnt the anti-Christ the one who will make a false peace agreement? Hmmm think I am stretching a bit? It gets better. The prophet Zechariah warned (Christians should be familiar with this, even Christian presidents) that those who burden themselves with Jerusalem will be dashed to pieces. Now a Christian president who presumably knows these scriptures, and proclaims a faith in the Jewish Messiah, and yet knowingly leads his nation into the abyss of certain condemnation at the hand of the God he swears he serves desperately needs his head examined. He must be insane! Today in the British Parliament, the podium from which the Prime Minister speaks not only has a Bible resting upon it; it has a Koran resting on top of the Bible. Europe is fast becoming not only a post Christian group of nations, but a pro-Islamic group of nations as well. President Bush embraces Islam as a peaceful religion, and the State Department continues to appease and praise the Islamists openly. Did I miss something? Arent we supposed to be engaged in a worldwide war against terrorism? Has anyone else noticed that nearly every conflict in the world today, and nearly every terrorist act is perpetrated by Islam? The most notable exception might be the Irish Republican Army, but they are sympathetic to the Palestinians and have often cooperated on strategic training and planning. So if we are waging a war on terror, and we are at the same time doing all we can to appease the terrorist, couldnt it be argued that we are suffering from mass dementia on a global scale? I contend that to fight against God, Creator of All things, Master of everything, is tantamount to insanity. The world today, and the leaders governing us are at war with God. It is that simple, the flesh of man vs. the Holy Spirit of God. This is insanity at its apex. The world is going to suffer tremendously for this embracement of the devil, and the torment of this insanity will burn forever. Thankfully, none of us have to be turned over to a reprobate mind, we can embrace God instead, love His truth, and surrender to His will. If you have detected in your life a hardening of the heart towards the things of God, I appeal to you to stoop where you are, and fall on your knees in repentance. God does not want that any man (or woman or child) should perish but that all would come to repentance. Lets see eternal love, goodness, kindness, joy, and fulfillment, or eternal torment, separation from all that is good, burning, suffering, terrible fear, thirst which one will I chose, which one will I choose? Displacing Institutions and Civic Engagement

By Jonathon Hardcastle Since the introduction of traditional institutional forms of communication, like the press and telephony, people have been engaged in numerous discussions regarding their role in the process, their power to alter or affect technological innovations, their reactions to adopt or reject the latest manifestations. Academic debates and endless public discussions resulted in a situation where no right or wrong answer prevailed. All were possible, everything was applicable. As historians emphasize, most people seemed reluctant to accept newer forms of communications as they were trying to sustain a certain way of living, secure their position in society and most importantly, maintain a clear focus between the old and the new needs that evolved. Thus, the outcome of any suggested displacement became one of the central focus points in cultural studies, politics and other sciences, since the disintermediation was able to blur the ground upon which an action could be decided and a conclusion reached. One of the most important institutions that has been threatened to be displaced, if not in its entirety, in at least some of its functions, was that of the family. Traditionally, the institution of the family is responsible for the overall socialization of a person, as it constitutes the first small community in which an individual evolves and learns to interact with other community members. Over the past century, due to economic, political and social changes, the traditional family unit has altered the way it interacts in relation to its members and with the rest of the society. Unfortunately, especially in Western societies, the role of the family has been altered and individualism is promoted as the basic principle having the primary role in a person's life. The institution of the family has lost its original appeal and power. This realization does not come as a shock, as it is directly related with the increasing divorce numbers or the lower numbers of civic engagement among other reasons that led to the diminished social capital. Parents and children reconstructed their relationships and directed their focus away from traditional family values. As an individual is taught from an early age that economic success and tangible rewards shall better serve him/her in the future, in comparison to healthy individual relationships, one tends to become less interested in creating a family, get involved in volunteer work, embrace humanitarianism or strive for social welfare. In today's fierce competitive environment, the focus of a person is directed towards a satisfactory monetary compensation during his/her professional career that is based on previous educational choices and academic performances. These changes in the institution of the family have been reflected to other institutions as well, as that of church. According to social researchers, religious participation has decreased over the years and young believers have considerably been shrinking in numbers over the last decade. Although the institution of church is the next most important institution after that of family, as it compiles some of the most important social values and accelerates the individual's socialization process, it has managed to loose its appeal. One of the most important advantages of the church is that it provides an important incubator for civic skills, civic norms, community interests, and civic recruitment. Religiously active men and women learn to give speeches, run meetings, manage disagreements, and bear administrative responsibility. In part for these reasons, churchgoers are substantially more likely to be involved in secular organizations, to vote and participate politically in other ways, and to have deeper informal social connections. Although in a religious society like that of United States, the individual enjoys many advantages from his/her religious involvement, over the first two-thirds of the century, the latest research findings suggest that this is not anymore the truth. Contemporary citizens tend to judge negatively and suspect the intentions of the church clerics while sometimes they even denounce the church's efforts to improve social welfare. They interpret the role and practices of the church as that of a corporation that wants to exercise its power over its believers, in order to gain more power while focusing on increasing its revenues. Whilst criticizing the church intentions, the former church attendees are skipping Sunday service and the institution of church is loosing its "believers" who tend to receive and offer comfort and support through other institutions. Excused by their reduced leisure time, the profound changes in their social life and their willingness to survive in a global competitive environment, past churchgoers avoid their religious involvement. According to these, among other reasons, civic engagement has decreased over the years and believers tend to fulfill their need to get involved, socialize, perform, and provide help to those in need through alternative channels. In fact, as religious involvement is a crucial dimension of civic engagement, the observed trends in civic engagement are closely tied to changing patterns of religious involvement. Summing up, although religion is still considered today as a central fount of Western community life, the broad oscillations in religious participation during the twentieth century mirror trends in secular civic life. This disengagement appears to be tied to generational succession, as for the most part younger generations are less involved both in religious and in secular social activities than were their predecessors when at the same age. Evaluating the effects of changing communication forms and the development of additional channels over the recent years, along with how these developments, have altered one's understanding about oneself in relation to the discussed institutions. The recent criticism about technology, institutions, media, disintermediation, and their social implications, may bring forward the opposite view and create debates. But, human history is full of numerous examples of clash and integration through which a more advanced synthesis was born. Thus, the issue remains not to cease the questioning and the criticism so as to avoid the uncomfortable zone of debate, but rather to use these methods as contemporary tools in order to evaluate the future implications of today's human praxis. Its like watching recently popularized crop circles. Simple circular forms started around Stonehedge. Lights collect over a wheat field and quickly trace out circular patterns. The more people learn and connect their consciousness to these phenomena, the greater their number and complexity. Humans focus attention to generate energies for the complexities of life to manifest. Many people today tap into UFO hopes and dreams. Because people share memories of space ships (collected from numerous popularized movies from ET to Star Wars), I believe people have real experiences. The small bodied, large head and huge eyed alien motifs amass in imaginations. Individuals even get transported into spaceships, reporting sensational experiences. Even without any physical evidence, books, movies, and sightings of lights perpetuate beliefs in UFOs. Modern UFO phenomena appear very similar to Christian hopes of Jesus imminent return. For almost 2000 years, groups of Christians await to identify Jesus returning to Earth to rule over a 1000 year Millennium of peace. Look, he is coming on the clouds (Revelations 1:7). Jesus would likely return similar to his ascension to heaven (Luke 24:51). Note that the Seventh Day Adventist movement was started after Jesus didnt return in 1843. With rampant suffering and injustice, humanity awaits a major climactic event. This is real. Now, what can we learn from scientific data about identified flying objects. Data from science actually supplies us with powerful identifiable energies. Maybe we can realize the reality of identifiable extraterrestrial sources, tap into the power of these flying photons (light), and help generate the reality of a great, glorious future for humanity.
