By Richard Romando Putting together a bridal shower registry can be fun, if you know what you are doing. First of all, keep in mind that a bridal shower registry is not the same as a wedding registry. Gifts for a bridal shower, after all, tend to be smaller. So do not list major gift items like appliances or furniture. Instead, think naughty items such as sexy t-shirts, lingerie, or aphrodisiacs. More wholesome bridal shower gifts include albums, picture frames, aromatherapy candles, and the like. Romantic CDs and DVDs also make great gifts. You should also list toiletries, such as lotions, shampoos, special soaps and other similar items. How do you put together a bridal shower registry? You can take advantage of the in-store registries at the large department stores in order to enable guests who do not live near you to choose and buy gifts that are on the registry. This option, however, can be limiting. So it is sometimes better to create an online bridal shower registry where your guests can shop in the comforts of their home. Creating an online shower registry at a specialty store will give you the option to choose from a wider variety of products that the shop specializes in. A department store may only have limited varieties of a product while a specialty shop may carry hundreds of varieties. Some reminders If your Matron of Honor and other close friends are putting together your bridal shower registry for you, make sure you clue them in on what theme you would like. Avoid getting too surprised by talking to them openly about how you envision your bridal shower to be and what gifts you would like. Also make sure that the items you include in the registry have a wide range of prices, so that guests with different budgets can have a wider selection to choose from. Bridal Registry provides detailed information on Bridal Registry, Online Bridal Registry, Bridal Shower Registry, Bridal Registry Ideas and more. Bridal Registry is affiliated with Bridal Shops. Finding the Perfect Bridesmaids Gift
By Maria Romain As the first rule of thumb, a bride should present her bridesmaids with a gift that reflects the bridesmaids individual character. Finding the perfect bridesmaids gift does not have to be difficult. When you consider the fact that your bridesmaids are the closest girlfriends that you have, deciding on what to give them can be a piece of cake! It is best to give your bridesmaids a gift that is practical, inexpensive, and unique. A fashionable choice among brides is to give each bridesmaid a set of jewelry. A coordinated pair of earrings and a matching necklace to wear on the wedding day is a special way to show any bridesmaid how much they are appreciated. If you are a bride that likes uniformity, thats okay, but keep in mind that the more unique the gift is to each bridesmaid, the more special it will be to her. If you decide to make every bridesmaids gift the same, consider individually wrapping each gift in its own unique gift paper, box or bag. If you dont mind varying each gift a little, a popular new trend is to give each bridesmaid her own personalized tote bag. The bag can be personalized with her favorite color and/or embroidered with her name. The great thing about giving a tote bag as a bridesmaid gift is that it can particularly be used the day of the wedding to house all of the items she will need to get through your wedding day. You can go a step further and fill each bag with a snack, toiletries, a pair of slippers, or anything else that your bridesmaids may need the day of your wedding. No matter how small the wedding, planning it is no easy task. If you have ever been engaged in planning a wedding, you know that it holds the longest to do list that you will encounter ever again. Regardless of how many people are involved in the planning phase of the wedding and no matter how short the brides to do list, she will always encounter some form of stress. Fortunately, as the bride you have the privilege to delegate some of your responsibilities to your bridesmaids. Bridesmaids are the backbone of the planning phase of a wedding through the eyes of the bride. Whenever you need help completing a task you can depend on your bridesmaids to get the job done. This is why finding unique bridesmaids gifts are so important. A wedding is a special time for any bride as well as for the special people who will share the wedding day with you. Finding the perfect bridesmaids gift should be the least of your worries. Just remember to keep it practical, inexpensive, and unique. Asthma - Definition, Cause and Triggering Factors
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell] Michael Russell What is it and who gets it? Asthma is a condition whereby the smaller airways of the lungs constrict (or narrow) from time to time, causing typical symptoms. The duration and extent of narrowing vary and they determine the degree of severity of the disease. Asthma affects people of all ages, however, it tends to starts in childhood and runs in family. Having said that, certain asthma sufferers have no family members who have asthma. What are the symptoms of asthma? Typical symptoms are a cough, wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath. The severity of asthma can usually be classified according to the degree of symptoms. Each episode of symptoms may last from a hour to several days if left untreated. Death is a known but uncommon cause of severe untreated asthma. Symptoms of mild asthma: Episodes of symptoms only during exercise or triggered by a chest or an upper respiratory infection. You are usually symptom- free between episodes. Symptoms of moderate asthma: You display symptoms from time to time. Symptoms tend to be worst at night and early in the morning. You may be awakened at night with a tight chest and coughing. Symptoms of severe asthma: You have symptoms on most days. You may find it hard to talk. Frequent hospitalization for asthma is also one of the criteria for severe asthma. What causes asthma? Asthma occurs as a result of inflammation in the lower, smaller airways. No one is entirely sure why the inflammation occurs. As a consequence of the inflammation, the sensitive airway constricts, making it hard for air to get in and out of the lungs. This leads to symptoms like wheezing, breathless, chest tightness and a cough. Not only that, the inflammation also stimulates the airway to pump out extra mucus, which causes the airway to obstruct further. What are the exacerbating factors of asthma or what can make it worse? Asthma symptoms may be triggered by certain factors. Occasionally, we do not know why it becomes worse. It is possible to avoid certain triggers to help to reduce symptoms. Identifiable triggers include: Exercise. Exercise is a known trigger for asthma. Having said that, you should not refrain yourself from doing sports and exercises. They are actually good for your asthma. It is possible to prevent asthma symptoms while exercising by using an inhaler before you exercise. Pollen and moulds. This is particular evident during season of hay fever. Infection. Viral respiratory tract infections like flu or common cold are common triggers. Smoking and air pollution. Some medicine. Certain medicines are known to constrict smaller airways in the lungs, they include aspirin, beta-blockers and some eye drops for glaucoma. House dust mites. Some food. We do not know why certain food can bring up symptoms of asthma. Food like nuts, eggs and fish can sometimes trigger off an asthma attack in people who have known asthma. However, this is not a common trigger. Emotion. Asthma has nothing to do with your 'nerve'. However, certain emotions like stress, laughing, anxiety can all cause symptoms of asthma. Michael Russell

Nine Essentials Tips for Hiring Good Employees
By Jo Ann Joy There are never any guarantees that you will always hire the right employee. However, there are ten important areas that you must cover that will give you the best information to use in your hiring decisions. We will assume that you have posted the open position, and you have some applicants that seem suitable for the job. The first important tip is be thoroughly prepared for the interview. The second important tip is that you draft your interview questions before the interview considering the job responsibilities, whether the employee will supervise others, whether the employee will meet with clients and/or vendors, and other relevant factors about the job you want to fill. Some of the questions you will want to ask are: 1. What did you do at your last position?
2. What did you like about your last position?
3. Why did you leave your last position?
4. How was your relationship with co-workers, supervisors, and customers?
5. What accomplishments are you most proud of?
6. In which areas would you most like to improve?
7. What were your strengths and weaknesses? The third important tip is that you find out about the applicants future plans or goals, and you can ask: 1. Why did you get into this type of work and this industry?
2. What courses in college do you feel were most applicable to your work in the field?
3. What are your long-term goals; where do you see yourself in five years? The fourth important tip is that you ask questions that will help you determine how the individual will fit in the specific job and handle different situations. You should review the job responsibilities and then ask: 1. Describe your experience that will help you most in this position?
2. Would you be comfortable supervising employees?
3. Are you familiar and proficient with the type of computer system we use?
4. Describe any other skills that you believe qualify you for this position.
5. If you are required to work additional hours per week or travel, can you do that? The fifth important tip is that you should have the applicant sign a release that allows you to obtain complete information about his or her previous work experience. The release should state that the applicant will not bring any action against you or any former employee as a result of any information or inferences drawn from the information. Be sure to check all references. If the prospective employee has gaps in his or her work history, find out what was occupying their time at those times. The sixth important tip is that you ask the applicant what compensation he or she expects to receive from your company, and tell the applicant what the compensation is. If the applicant is not willing to work for the compensation you are willing to pay, then you should conclude the interview. If the employee expects much more than you are willing to pay, they will not be satisfied and are likely to be a short-term employee. The seventh important tip is that you need to know which questions you cannot legally ask which are: 1. How old are you?
2. What is you religion?
3. What is your race or ethnicity?
4. Are you married?
5. Do you have children?
6. Do you plan to have children?
7. Have you ever used drugs? The eighth important tip is that you have the applicant sign an authorization for you to do a background check and, possibly, a credit check. Verify the employees previous employment and education. Verify any other important information that is pertinent to the job to be filled. The ninth important tip is that you obtain proof of citizenship or the right to work in the U.S., you obtain the applicants social security number, you ask for any other names the applicant has used, you ask for present address and previous addresses for the last ten years, and you try to find out whether the applicant has a criminal record. There are online resources that will give you guidance in checking whether the applicant has a criminal record. You may be able to check your city, county, and state records for that information. Depression Is No Match for Herbal Treatments
By James Penn More and more consumers are approaching their doctors about getting natural herbal advice for their depression rather than being placed on synthetic anti depressants. Perhaps the most common natural herbal remedy is St. Johns Wort. The best thing about using an herb in place of a prescribed anti depressant is perhaps that the side effects are fewer in number and definitely in severity. You cant take St. Johns Wort in conjunction with another anti depressant or with certain other medications, so make sure you consult your doctor if youre taking anything else before you add St. Johns Wort to the mix. The NCCAM (National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine) is helping consumers get educated about the use of St. Johns Wort to treat depression. They believe it is best used to treat mild to moderate (but not severe) forms of depression. What is not yet known is exactly how St. Johns Wort works in order to treat depression. Its believed that it may possibly prevent nerve cells from reabsorbing serotonin, which is the chemical messenger in the body. Its been used and studied by scientists in treating mental disorders for many centuries, but it still remains somewhat of a mystery, even though its effectiveness in treating symptoms of depression such as mood swings is unprecedented, loss of appetite and often a loss of energy, and sadness has been largely documented. The reason consumers are turning to herbal remedies such as St. Johns Wort is because synthetic drugs have a high incidence of side effects, such as dry mouth, headaches, sexual dysfunction and insomnia. Its also a less costly treatment than high-priced prescription medications. You can buy St. Johns Wort in capsule form, as a tea, or as an extract. You have to be careful about the quantities you use when taking St. Johns Wort, because high level doses can potentially impede the treatment process by causing dizziness, upset stomach, and a sensitivity to sunlight. St. Johns Wort is not the only herb being used to treat depression however. Damiana, Ginseng, and Valerian root are also used to improve depression symptoms such as insomnia and stress. Regardless of which herbal remedy you wish to try in treatment for your depression symptoms, it is important to get the guidance of a doctor skilled in herbal remedies to ensure you are ingesting the correct amount and type of herb for your personal needs. The Starbucks Frappuccino: It's Frapptastic!
By Patrick Austin Starbucks offers an array of delicious coffee beverages including a delightful chilled beverage known as the frappuccino. Its for people who enjoy the cooler side of coffee. For many years, you could only get a frappuccino at a posh Starbucks coffee shop, but those days are over. Now, you can pick up this wonderous beverage at any 7-11 or grocery store. Though you should be warned, the frappuccino you purchase at a convenience store wont have the same elaborate confectionary design as the coffee shop frapp. In fact, the only thing the drinks have in common is the name. The in-shop Starbucks frappuccino is more in the mold of a Dairy Queen Blizzard or Baskin Robbins Cappuccino Blast. Its much thicker and is topped with a swirl of whip cream and syrup of choice. There are a myriad of flavors including the basic coffee all the way to an ostentatious Banana Coconut Mocha Coffee Blend. The frappuccino sold in grocery stores, quickie marts, and many other locations was created for convenience. It comes in a compact 9.5 oz container with a ready-to-pop top. The drink features more milk and requires little effort to consume. Essentially, its a beverage for someone on the go who still wants to enjoy the elegance of Starbucks. There are four flavors to choosecoffee, mocha, mint chocolate, and caramel. The price for an on-the-go frapp is about $2.50. Its a little more expensive than your average energy drink($2.00) but that shouldnt come as a surprise considering it's from Starbucks (all their drinks are more expensive). Overall, the Starbucks frappuccino (whether made in-shop or picked up in-store) is a delicious beverage that is sure to perk up your day. It combines the simple pleasure of a frosty treat with the uber-caffeination of all Starbucks coffee drinks. Some might call it the best of both worlds. How to Remove Hair Dye
By Brenda H. Murphy Most women who choose to color their hair, do it at home. It's not that difficult, and you get it done just the way you want. Unfortunately, you often do a little more than you want, and are left wondering how to remove hair dye from a variety of surfaces, including you! The first tip, is that when dying your hair, apply a border of Vaseline around the edge of your scalp. Make it an area perhaps an inch wide or more. Yes, it feels a little greasy, but it will save you the work of trying to scrub off dye stains at the base of your neck where you can't even see what you're doing. If you do have hair dye stains, there are commercial removers to be bought at hair salons (after all, they make mistakes too), but you can get the same results with your toothpaste. The make up of toothpaste means that it contains just enough abrasive to help remove the dye from your skin, without irritating it. Rub it in with your gloved fingers, or use an old toothbrush. When the dye falls on clothing, get it off and into cold water, immediately. Soak until the stain is all or mostly removed. Wring out and place on a firm surface, then use an old toothbrush to work a dishwashing detergent into the stain. Rinse and launder as usual but air dry in case the stain is not completely gone. If there is some mark left, soaking it overnight in one of the OxyClean products may help. Visit http://www.LearnHowToRemove.com for a growing library of tips to remove those annoying messes in your life. Does Anger Trigger Abuse?
By Glenda Erceg Anger and abuse often go together. There are many reasons for this and first of all we need to understand a little about anger and where it comes from. Anger in adults often begins when we face injustice. Outrage often follows and this can lead us to take appropriate action. Outrage is a positive thing when it helps us take steps to stop violence and other injustices. Outrage involves integrity and caring plus a sense of responsibility. This type of anger does not lead to abuse so in this instance anger and abuse do not go together. When anger comes from a sense of being wronged, abandoned, rejected or controlled it can easily and often does lead
to abuse. In these situations we fear being humiliated, disrespected or embarrassed. These are the times when anger
may lead to abuse. At times like these we want to fight back, attack or blame others. We are often not willing to take responsibility for our own actions and want someone else to pay for the way we feel. Anger and abuse create unhealthy and unsafe relationships. Anger and abuse do not just affect a few people. When anger and abuse are used together entire families are affected. Children especially are vulnerable to anger and abuse. The consequences for anger and abuse are many and none of them are good. If you are in a situation where anger and abuse have become a pattern you need to seek help. There are groups for anger management and there are also groups for people who are living with people who have anger control or abuse issues. Anger and abuse can become deadly problems if they are not addressed and taken care of. Do not put yourself or others

Hoodia Weight Loss Is More Than Possible
By Neil Day Its a relative newcomer on the weight loss scene in North America and other countries, but hoodia has been around for a very long time in Africa. Hoodia weight loss, in fact, has been recorded and known for generations on this continent where natives swear by this plants ability to aid in losing weight. Hoodia weight loss is becoming a favorite way to stave off a desire to eat by many who want to drop pounds without enduring the misery of feeling hungry. The plant that is used to create hoodia diet pills and supplements is known for its ability to fool the brain into thinking the body is full. This means those who take the supplement to assist them in weight loss will eat less while avoiding a constant nagging feeling of hunger that other weight loss supplements will leave in tact. Hoodia weight loss pills and supplements work by acting on the central nervous system. They do so through the use of a 100 percent natural supplement thats derived from a plant. The perks of this particular method of weight loss are many, too. While some say hoodia only suppresses the appetite, there are those that believe it also speeds up the metabolism. Either way, many users swear by its properties for effective weight loss. Hoodia weight loss comes without fear of side effects or other harsh reactions typical diet pills present. There are no drugs involved in a weight loss program that uses this supplement. This means the dangers associated with weight loss drugs that contain ingredients such as ephedra can be completely avoided. While its likely someone out there has an allergy to the plant, typical side effects are not present. But does hoodia weight loss really work? There are many clinical trials and happy users who say absolutely yes. The supplements have been known to help people shed pounds without feeling hungry and while still allowing the body to get a good intake of the foods it needs to survive in a healthy fashion. Elders and Youngsters - Activities Together
By Jack Wilson Seniors and children both benefit from opportunities to spend time together. Sometimes it is awkward unless some kind of structure is offered. A good way to improve communication is to have a scavenger hunt in which children seek out seniors who exhibit certain visible characteristics, such as wearing a certain color, or hidden qualities that require questioning to determine, such as being born within a certain decade. Once found, the youth asks pre-selected questions and the two get to know each other better. Similarly a game of I Spy can be played about things which are clearly visible in the room or area or on the person. The children can put on a play for the seniors, then explain one-on-one how they learned their lines, how they made their costumes, what they think the play was about, etc. Stage a talent show where both the children and the seniors can perform any act they can think of. You can make a list for each group of suggestions for types of performances in case they can`t think of any. Anyone can play a comb and tissue instrument or a kazoo. You can provide kazoos for everyone and have a band, including sticks and cardboard for drums. Have the children pretend to be animals and the seniors have to guess which animal is which. Then have the seniors perform the same and the children have to guess. Have the children pretend to be doing whatever work they do on the farm or in the home or at school, on the playground, at the mall, and have the elders guess what task they are performing. Have the seniors demonstrate the work they used to do for a living or the hobby they now pursue. Have them read to each other one-on-one. Bring books the children can read and big-print books for the elders to read to the children. Bring charts and maps and pictures and have the children explain the contents to the seniors, then reverse roles. If feasible, have the children bring small pets and share them. Have them make up stories or tell about real events. Have both groups study about safety matters regarding the other group and present their findings at the next visit. Do the same about any subject of interest to both groups. Have how-to projects where each teaches the other. Bring wrapped gifts for everyone with their names on a tag and distribute them as you would at Christmas. Consult with your local pre-school and kindergarten teacher for ideas for activities that everyone can enjoy regardless of skills or abilities. Check with a special education teacher, too. Have each child learn a word or phrase in a foreign language and teach it to the elder; ask the elder if they know a word or phrase to teach the children. Sing! Celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, share memories of good and bad times, tell stories, write diaries together, take lots of pictures and share them, bring in pictures of home and parents and siblings, cousins, parties, pets, babies, horses, etc. Make scrapbooks together from magazine pictures. Color together in coloring books. Sit together in silence for 5 minutes. Find a massage therapist who will come along and give everyone a massage and explain the benefits. Bring in a friendly fireman to talk about fire safety and CPR, first aid. Be sure he or she knows how to talk to children. Invite the coach of a local sports team to come in and demonstrate some moves. Maybe get members of the team to participate. The mascot too. Get some nerf equipment and have some fun tossing back and forth or around in a circle. Talk to the school principals for more ideas. Get the teachers involved. Bring up the issue at PTA meetings. Put out a newsletter asking for ideas. With a little effort, communication between the old and the young can improve dramatically and benefit all the members of the families involved. Myths About Marriage
By Timothy Cole Marriage Will Add Happiness to Your Life Most people overestimate the benefits of getting married while underestimating the problems. Most people think that getting married will make them happier, feel more connected, and bring move love into their lives. In reality, marriages also limit peoples freedom and autonomy, marriages constrain choices, and getting married increases the likelihood of conflict (disputes over time, money, children, etc). Simply put, most people enter marriage with unrealistic expectations of what is going to happen, which ultimately results in disappointment, anger, and frustration. Unfortunately, people expect marriages to be source of happiness and joy, when, in fact, marriages are a source of much happiness AND much frustration. In fact, research show that people are more likely to be mean to a spouse than to a complete stranger. People are more likely to show disregard, indifference, and anger to a spouse compared to how they would treat a stranger. This happens because close relationships, not only create rewards, but they also create problems. And unfortunately, most people are not ready or well prepared to deal with the problems. Romantic, Passionate Love Will Last There are two types of love. The type of love that rules our decision making at the start of a relationship romantic, passionate, love. And there is the type of love that makes a relationship work companionate love. Romantic, passionate love is exciting, intense and all encompassing. Companionate love is based on affection, appreciation and companionship. Most people marry because they are swept up in romantic, passionate love, not realizing that this type of love is going to fade. Romantic, passionate love always fades especially after two years of marriage. And when it starts to fade, if you do not have a deep appreciation for your spouse companionate love your spouse is not your best friend your marriage is going be difficult to maintain. Unfortunately, we select spouses on the basis of romantic love, but companionate love is what really matters in the long run. Love is Enough Love is never enough to make a relationship work. People think that love will carry them through all of their difficult times. But, in reality, more than just love is needed to make a relationship work. Relationships require good communication skills being able to resolve conflict in ways that create closeness and understanding. It is important to be able to share feelings without creating defensiveness and more conflict. In short, spouses need to be able to talk to each other and creating understanding without causing more frustration, anger, and hostility. Having Kids Brings People Closer Together Many couples think that having kids will bring them closer together. Research, however, shows that having kids leads to dramatic declines in relational satisfaction. Having kids puts enormous strain on a marriage, it increases the demands that couples face, and it often leads to more conflict and less satisfying interactions. If problems exist in a relationship, adding kids to the mix, only makes the problems worse, not better. Spouses do NOT Cheat when Things are Going Good It is estimated that close to 30 to 60% of all spouses will cheat at some point in their marriage. And many people think that spouses will only cheat when there are problems in their relationship. Cheating, however, is more complicated than that. Cheating is driven by a host of factors. And it is quite possible for people who are happily married to cheat on a spouse. Cheating can happen for a variety of different reasons. Timothy Cole, PhD. Breast Augmentation - Non Surgical Options
By Michael Russell In this 3rd and last article on breast augmentation we're going to discuss non surgical options for women who are reluctant to go under the knife. The safest of these is herbal supplements. They are for the most part natural and actually healthy for you. Unfortunately the results derived from these are subtle and too often, none at all. How you respond to herbal supplements depends entirely on your body chemistry. For women seeking a large increase in the size of their breasts, herbal supplements are not going to do the job. After supplements we have what are called breast shaping systems. These are devices that a woman uses on a regular basis, mostly to exercise the muscles of the breasts. The long term goal is that eventually with proper increase in muscle strength and thickness the size of the breasts will increase. While many of these devices have been FDA tested and approved there has been no documented proof that they produce any real increase in breast size. Next we have indictable fillers which are actually cutting edge technology. These are safe soft tissue fillers that are made up of stabilized hyaluronic acid or polyacrylamide gel. These are much safer than the silicone injections of years gone by. However, because this is fairly new, it is hard to say for certain what long range side effects may be lurking in the future of women who have had these fillers injected into them. Next we have breast firming creams. These creams usually contain a plant extract called Pueraria Mirifica that only grows in Thailand and has a high concentrate of phytoestrogens. These are not hormones but supposedly they provide the same benefits as oestrogen. Oestrogen is what increases breast size during ovulation along with the birth control pill and doctor prescribed hormone supplements. However, there is little documented evidence to show that these creams really do much of anything at all, considering that direct injections of Retin-A do not produce much of an increase in breast size, which they should. So firming creams are probably more hype than anything else. Then there are the women who don't want to take any kind of drugs, have any kind of surgery or for that matter do anything to their bodies at all and still want to have larger breasts. Well, for these women there are the breast forms, or what are commonly referred to as "falsies." For the most part, these are comfortable and can be worn with confidence that they're not going to come loose and fall off at the wrong moment. We live in a society where we want to have the benefits of whatever it is we want but don't want to have to pay the price for it, whether it be monetary or otherwise. Women want large breasts but don't want surgery. Or they do want surgery but don't want any side effects. The woman who don't want surgery want an alternative option that will give them the same dramatic results as surgery. Unfortunately with breast augmentation you get what you pay for and then some. The most expensive procedures are also the most risky. The cheapest procedures, while being much safer, don't give the same results. One of these days we're all going to just learn to be happy with what God gave us.

Tips for Backyard Fish Ponds Care
By Tim Lee Installing a backyard fish pond is an aesthetic addition to your landscaping and offers a bit of tranquility as well. However, taking care of backyard fish ponds is not as easy as one might think. And, you have to do more than simply install the fish pond and then let it go. Backyard fish ponds care is constant and consistent. Although, if you follow these tips you will be able to enjoy your backyard fish pond with as little effort possible in its maintenance. Tip #1 Use a Plastic Liner Use a plastic liner to separate your backyard fish pond from the surrounding soil. By doing this you eliminate nutrients from the soil intruding your fish pond and will only have to deal with the elements that are in the pond itself or are created by the fish living in the pond. Tip #2 No Low-lying Areas Do not install a backyard fish pond in a low lying area where runoff from your lawn will end up in your fish pond. Maintaining the fish pond is difficult enough without introducing runoff from the lawn. When installed on a high area you will have an easier time maintaining your fish pond. Tip #3 Water Plants Another great suggestion is to add several varieties of plants in and around your fish pond. This way the excess nutrients will be absorbed by the plants and will not end up promoting algae growth in your fish pond. This works well because it keeps algae from growing and you having to clean the algae out. Maintaining a fish pond takes work, and you should expect algae to be a problem, especially if you have fish. Just follow these tips to keep your algae problem to a minimum. Rock Gardens - Creating Breathtaking Garden Vistas
By Tania Penwell Rock gardens really offer some of the most spectacular garden vistas. Along with extensive usage of rocks and stones the plants native to the rocky or alpine environments are featured in the rock gardens or rockeries. Usually nowadays the rock gardens are designed by homeowners as a measure to make advantageous use of the rocky tract lying in their yards. Creating a rock garden and looking after its upkeep can be a good hobby. The retired persons can especially take this up as a pastime and spend many a leisurely moment in the rock garden. Origin of rock garden concept and aspects of rock gardens Originally it were the travelers to the Swiss Alps who got impressed by the flora that grew among the snowy heights and rocky terrain out there and introduced the exotic flora and feel in their homelands. The rock gardens can come in various shapes and sizes. They may be small and simply done as also vast and elaborately set up. Every rock garden can be set up in a unique way. While simple rock gardens may include only flowers, foliage and rocks the exotic ones can also be made having ponds and waterfalls in them. Your landscape can indeed be wonderfully transformed by making use of a worthy rock garden idea. The rock garden is usually observed as a pile of rocks of different sizes that are aesthetically arranged with small gaps being introduced in between them for planting of flora. Bonsai may also be incorporated suitably in rock gardens. Rock gardens can also be styled in the Japanese rock garden way. In such case the rock gardens are also referred to as Zen garden. These are special rock gardens with hardly any plants. Rocks and affine, light colored gravel are what make up such Zen gardens. Going about with setting up of rock garden While proceeding with setting up of rock garden the rock that is available in the locality is primarily considered for building up the garden. This also gives a natural look to the garden. Often there are a number of rock types to choose from. Any native rock that helps create a natural look should be selected. After placement of the rocks they ought to be allowed to settle down for a few weeks for judging their stability and effect on soil conditions. While selecting the flora type for rock garden though there are no rules or conventions as such, yet, choices of plants need to be made judiciously. Plants that will be able to withstand and thrive in the climatic condition of the garden should be the ones that are to be naturally selected. Personal favorites among such plants can be opted for of course keeping-in with your ideas of rock garden setting. Using of the right kind of soil- that is rich, light in texture and well drained to avoid water stagnation is much needed in the rock garden. Usage of strong fertilizers should be avoided and natural soil enriching material should be preferably used. Watering is also a very important thing to take care of. Using a watering can for watering purpose is the best way out. Alongside, care must be taken to ensure that the garden is not overshadowed by large trees. The garden must get exposed to the sun, wind and other natural elements. ***You may use this article on your website as long as the two URLs are hyperlinked*** Tania Penwell is a contributor for Savvy Landscaping, where you will find all kinds of tips and information on landscaping, including how to create rock gardens and more. The Six Hidden Dangers in Walking for Weight Loss
By Matt Shuebrook If you are able to, stop walking, and start 'intervaling' walking - will keep your heart rate relatively low. Walking will train your body to burn calories more efficiently (this is bad). Walking will not raise your metabolism to the level that is should be at the burn more fat and process food at faster rates. Walking will not help you build any muscle. Walking will take along time to see end results. Walking will program your body to gain more weight in the future. Intervals will raise your heart rate. Intervals will raise your metabolism for up to 48 hours after the interval workout. Intervals will teach your body to burn more calories per day, per hour, even per minute of being awake or while sleeping. Intervals will also deliver greater results much, much faster. What are cardio intervals and who are they for? Cardio intervals can be described as a form of mixed speeds of cardio. Instead of staying at one speed throughout the workout, you will start off with a slow speed to warm up. Progress to a FAST speed for up to 2 minutes followed by another slow speed for twice the amount of time as the FAST speed. You will repeat this for up to 30 minutes of total workout time. Cardio intervals are virtually designed to enhance the overall performance of anyone who does them. For the most part, they can be done by everyone. The main people that won't be able to handle intervals will be elderly, sick, injured, people who suffer from poor knees, ankles, hips, back injuries, etc. Simply implement the defined strategy above and watch your fat come running off of your body, literally. Mobile Phone - A New Playgound For Kids
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andrena_Markley]Andrena Markley Thanks to the alacrity of mobile manufacturers in helping every single strata of the society to avail the service of mobile. In today's world of mobile-mania, kids do occupy a commendable, and booming market share as mobile users. The scenario, though sure to raise a few eyebrows, has made mobile manufacturers to sit straight and design mobiles with features typical to the need of a child. Talking about the needs, the need of communication amasses the principal role in the modern world. For parents, mobiles are the handy tool to track their ward. With the help of this tool parents can get in touch with their kids instantly. And there are many more effective uses of communication in our life that come as additives for staying connected. However, leaving the communication point of view, mobiles do carry some interesting features that are capable to influence a young mind to get glued to a mobile phone. Amongst these options, mobile games are one such attractive feature that motivates a kid to play with the device for a considerable period of time. Integrated music player plays the second most important role in the category. To add to it modern mobiles possess superior integration with internet. These phones performs the perfect role of internet browsers and thereby help kids to send and access simple e-mails straightway from the mobile phone. Realising the business potential, new manufacturers are coming up with innovative phone models with very limited keys and with a design easy to be run by kids of different age group. These cute creations are designed with special LED emitters and can easily catch fancy of a kid's eye. Most importantly, these phones are now available on easy Pay As You Go options. Parents now can easily gift mobile phones to their kids next birthday. A gift that is sure to perform the role of communicator and play tool simultaneously and effectively. Getting Attention Survey Finds Most Nonprofits Not Using Marketing Plan, Need Strategy Help
By Nancy E. Schwartz Nonprofits, the value of a marketing plan to serve as the foundation of your daily work cannot be overstated. The right plan is flexible enough to embrace the changes your organization faces on a regular basis yet specific enough to guide ongoing implementation. Yet, I find that many nonprofit communicators are working without a marketing plan. As a matter of fact, findings from my recent survey of over 200 nonprofit communicators showed that more than 60% of the respondents did not have a marketing and communications strategy. Even those who did have a plan, shared the following problems: The plan isn't followed. There's no budget. The environment (in which the nonprofit works, or within the organization) has changed dramatically, making the plan irrelevant. Those nonprofit communicators who are "planless" report that they do a lot of talking about creating one, but first need to develop leadership support for the process. Equally compelling, more than 89% of respondents said that learning more about strategy (why, what, when and how to communicate) was either "important" or "critical" to them. Most striking were these findings, highlighting that nonprofit communicators: Face Three "Greatest Challenges"
Respondents consistently pointed to three "greatest challenges" faced in their everyday work. These are: 1. Getting buy in (strategically, and in terms of resource allocation) from colleagues and leadership. Respondents reported that colleagues, leadership and board members frequently don't see that program success is dependent on effective marketing. They frequently have absolutely no marketing insight. A lucky 10% reported that their leaders fully support and understand their marketing work. But 63% responded that although they receive some degree of support from leadership, their work is still little understood. As one respondent wrote "Our team's greatest challenge is being taken seriously by senior management, who often make communications-related decisions without our input." Another commented that leadership "wants branding but never thinks about audiences; wants coverage but believes its real only when its a story in the New York Times." 2. Creating brand or name recognition to build and reinforce awareness. Many respondents pointed to the lack of brand as a deterrent to marketing success. But it's a catch 22. Most nonprofit communicators lack the time, budget and/or expertise to develop a high-impact brand. One respondent pointed to her "inability to identify a clear message that we're all comfortable in communicating, much less specific audiences with messages tailored to each." 3. Lack of time and budget to do all that has to be done. The respondent who summed it up as "too many competing priorities," seemed to be speaking for the 69% of respondents who pointed to the lack of time and money as a huge barrier to success. Not an uncommon problem in the workplace. But when you're supposed to be producing, the problem is a big one. Another writes that she finds herself "getting bogged down in the day to day, leaving no time for planning, analysis or creative thinking." Are Striving Develop Skills In Several Areas
Over 80% of survey respondents identified these topics as "important" or "critical" areas in which they need to strengthen their skills. Strategy (tied for top pick, identified as an "important" or "critical" skill gap by 89% of readers)
Respondents want to learn more about strategizing to whom, what, when how and where to communicate. As you've read, most don't work from a communications plan, which is key to working within time and budget constraints. Even when they do, problems abound. Many of those who responded shared the lament that "fighting fires frequently preempt strategy even if you have a plan." Also described as "juggling while walking a tightrope." Message development and branding (the other top pick)
Nonprofit communicators report that although there's a lot of talk about nonprofit branding, there are few colleagues they can turn to for guidance in this area. 88% of respondents pinpointed this as an "important" or "critical" area in which to develop greater expertise. Website development and promotion
Many nonprofits continue to work on transforming their website from a brochure to one that takes advantage of the interactivity of the online medium. Marketing the site is another task for which enough time is seldom allotted, and for which skills are frequently just not there. Several mentioned a lack of understanding on the leadership level on how and why an organization's web presence needs to be integrated with other communications strategies. Evaluating success
It is hard to measure how much communications are helping to change behavior of any kind, much less generate changes such as increasing awareness. Respondents reported that they know that evaluating impact is critical for building leadership buy-in and increasing budgets. One respondent commented, "we need to know results to determine how to invest the limited marketing resources we do have." Getting Attention survey results showed that many nonprofit communicators are faced with obstacles when it comes to a marketing strategy but have faith, each and every one of the challenges mentioned can be tackled with success.
