By Lisa Koosis As a writer, I have a weakness for the blank page. Every time I'm in a stationery store I'm drawn to the aisle where they keep the notebooks, beckoned by those hundreds of blank pages, college-lined or wide-lined, spiral-bound or those flat, marbleized assignment books that we all remember from elementary school. It's worse in a bookstore where they have large sections of gorgeous, blank books: journals, sketchbooks, travel logs and the like. But did you ever wonder who buys those blank books? Did you ever wonder if anyone actually uses them? The truth is that there are plenty of people like me who love the blank page and those pretty blank books actually make great gifts to give on special occasions. It's not only writers who love blank books. So who would you buy a blank book for? A blank book would make a great gift for someone about to embark on a special trip, a tool to use to record impressions and memories of their journey. Small blank books are easy to tuck into a suitcase or carry-on bag. A blank book would make a great gift for an artist. Many blank books come unlined, and even the small-sized ones make great sketchbooks. More portable than larger sketchbooks, they're easily tucked into a pocketbook or tote bag. Blank books, either lined or unlined, make perfect gifts for children. Children are natural artists. They love to write and draw and doodle. Many blank books are geared specifically toward children, with brightly colored covers and graphics. Some even have thick black pages that are intended for use with the pastel and neon-colored gel pens that kids love. Blank books can make great gifts for readers, too. Many readers love to record the books they've read with notes about the authors, etcetera. A blank book serves this purpose well. And, of course, blank books are one of the best presents you can give to a writer. That goes without saying. The nice thing about blank books is that they are so versatile. They come in a large variety of shapes, sizes and textures. They can be vinyl or tapestry or leather. Covers come in elegant solid colors, or perhaps adorned with copies of famous artwork, or they can be fun and whimsical. Some, intended for journaling, even come with lock and key. Many come with built-in satin ribbons to use as bookmarks. It's easy to find a blank book to match any personality, and the price range they come in makes it a reasonable gift for any size budget (and those on a tight budget should be sure to check out the bargain section of your local bookstore since there are often great blank books there). Accessories complete the gift. When giving a blank book for a gift, be sure to accessorize it with a great pen (or charcoal or colored pencils for the artist). One great thing about giving a blank book as a gift is it's something the recipient will have for years, perhaps becoming a cherished keepsake or journal of their most private thoughts. What better gift could there be? Lisa is an author on http://www.Writing.Com/ which is a site for Fiction Writing. Lose Fat and Gain Muscle for Maximum Results
By Tim Shank Who of us don't want to have a nice, trim physique? Unfortunately most of us not only don't have the body shape that we want, we are products of eating too much fast fatty foods and sugary snacks for far too long. While most of us would like to have a better body, there are few of us that actually have what it takes to gain that body. We tend to jump from diet to diet in an endless cycle of weight loss and gain, and I have to tell you, that is hard on a body. So what is the real answer to permanent weight loss? The answer is simple, really. You need to lose fat and gain muscle in order to maximize your results. Our body stores fat, sometimes at an alarming rate because we tend to eat too much and we just don't burn enough calories during the day to be able to keep up with it. By gaining muscle we not only help to burn those calories but we change the shape of our bodies at the same time to mask over the remaining fat while it is melting away. Here is something that you may not know. By gaining an additional 10 pounds of muscle on your body you will be burning an extra 1000 calories per day. That is an amazing amount and if you changed nothing else other than adding those 10 pounds of muscle you would lose 2 pounds of fat per week. It isn't necessary to hit the gym every day and work out like a madman (or woman as the case may be) Generally adding some physical exercise in the form of resistance training will be more than enough to start to change your shape for the better. Gaining muscle and losing fat go hand in hand. I think that you will be pleasantly surprised with how quickly the fat really begins to disappear. Of course the added muscle with just help to make you look better faster. We have a special report on how you can build muscle while losing body fat at our website along with some great free fat loss tips and inspirational success stories. Motorola V3xx: A Heady Cocktail Of Fashion And Features
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alice_Erin]Alice Erin It is really hard to categorize the Motorola 3xx. The handset is technically far ahead of other fashion solutions and at the same time is far too fashionable than any 3G phones. The V3xx sports a more compact and streamlined Motorola RAZR V3 design combined with broadband like speed and dynamic multimedia capabilities. The award winning cutting edge RAZR design is further enhanced with premium metal finishes, a precision cut keypad and a svelte form in the Motorola V3xx . The handset's external display of 65k colours doesn't compare much to the primary internal 252k colours TFT display, but produces decent images that could be easily read in bright outdoors. The 2.2 inch internal screen produces accurate images so is great to view web-pages and perfectly doubles up as full-screen viewfinder for the integrated 1.3 megapixel camera with digital zoom. Moreover, video capture and playback in popular MPEG4 format is also supported. The Motorola V3xx supports HSDPA high-speed data transfer at 3.6 Mbps (category 6), so you can well imagine the fast pace of Internet connectivity and content download. Powered with Class 10 EDGE/GPRS apart from HSDPA, the Motorola V3xx also supports live two-way video calls with the extra VGA-camera. Quad band GSM network support and automatic switching between bands keeps the V3xx fully functional in all the five continents. The class 2 Bluetooth wireless technology supports not only Bluetooth stereo Music Profile, but also Bluetooth Music Control Profile. Transfer and synchronize information with your PC via faster miniUSB apart from Bluetooth. The Motorola V3xx has a built in MP3/AAC/AAC+ player so that you can listen to your favourite songs in high definition sound. Other than 40 Mb user memory, the handset supports hot swap of memory card up to 2GB, so there will always be room for some more. If you're looking for a stylish phone but do not want to compromise on any feature, Motorola V3xx should definitely be a top of the mind option. Mindfulness - The Key to Avoiding Overeating
By Jonna Reynolds I made myself a sandwich today and thought Id be efficient and do some work over lunch. I was brainstorming some ideas for my next article. Deep in though, the ideas came easy to me. By the middle of page two, I looked down and noticed that I was on my last bite. It was weird, like when you fall asleep and wake up feeling like you just blinked and the alarm went off. I didnt taste my sandwich at all. After cleaning up my plate, I thought, I could go for a little something sweet, maybe Ill have a piece of fruit. My body just ate lunch, but my mind missed out on the whole experience. So theres my article topic! Most of you have had an experience like this. In our hurried world, we have become excellent multitaskers. We eat while working, watching TV, reading, driving, dressingyou name it. While this seems to help with our time management, it may be one of the factors contributing the ever increasing incidence of obesity in our country. Mindfulness is a Zen term used to describe being fully aware and alive in the moment. It is the process of being aware of your sensations and thoughts without trying to judge or control them. To eat mindfully is to experience the meal with as many of your senses as you can, and be fully present in the experience. Mindful eating is not a new concept. Behavioral diet programs have suggested tips associated with it for years. Youve probably heard things like chew each bite 25 times, put your fork down in between bites and eat all your meals at the table. These tips are all ways to slow down while we eat. New evidence shows that while eating slowly is important, it is also important to pay attention while you eat in order to feel fully satisfied. Normal eating is described as eating when you are hungry, and stopping when you are full. Sounds simple enough? But this can only happen when you are fully attuned to your bodys signals for hunger and satiety. Chronic dieters often lose this ability- through training (constant dieting and willpower) they have learned to tune out physical hunger and eat only according to their current list of shoulds and guidelines. Even people who do have the capacity to recognize the bodys physical signals, have to pay attention to it. In addition to recognizing hunger in general, it is critical to determine the difference between mind hunger and body hunger. By mind hunger, Im referring to all of the other reasons that we eat- a stressful day, a celebration, boredom, sadness, fear of feeling an emotion We have learned that when our body or mind is yearning for something, we give it food. It is a quick and easy fix. Maybe what we really needed was a nap, or a hug, or someone to listen or to learn how to express ourselves better. Learning to not feed mind hunger with food is a long process, this is a behavior that we learned long ago, and need to relearn other coping techniques. But just being aware is a great start. When you think youre hungry, ask yourself if food is truly what you need. As you eat, just notice how hungry you are, how your food tastes, notice that more you eat, the less enjoyment you get. As your body reaches the point of satisfaction/satiety, your food doesnt taste as good as it did on the first bite. See if you can find this point. Geneen Roth explains it best, Eat what you want. Eat until you've had enough. Satisfaction is both emotional and physical. There's a physical point of satisfaction. It happens often that somebody is eating, and then there's one point at which your body says, 'I've had enough now, anything you put inside me is for your mind, not for me, your body.' You've got to be paying attention there, so that means you've got to be present. If you're distracted, if you're doing something else, you're going to miss that signal. To make your meals more mindful: Keep a food log- ask what, how much, how you felt, who was with you, where were you, how hungry were you? How did you feel afterwards?
Before you eat, rate your hunger on a scale of 1-10, after eating; use a satiety/fullness scale. This will help you to identify patterns, triggers for overeating, and recognize the point of satisfaction in a meal.(1- starving, about to pass out, 5- just right, not hungry and not full, satisfied, 10- stuffed, uncomfortable)
Make eating a solitary activity, sit at a table, light a candle, add dinner music, make it a complete experience
Focus on the flavors and textures of your food.

Am I Just a Freak of Nature?
By Ron Gregory My parents were not much into going to church but my paternal grandparents dragged my four brothers and I into church whenever possible. I went to Sunday School and sat through countless sermons all the while wishing I were out playing baseball or doing something fun. I had better things to do on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings then attending church services. Thinking back, I am glad I did attend. Some of it did sink in. A seed was planted. I learned all the Bible stories, you know, Creation, Adam and Eve, Noahs flood, Moses parting the Red Sea, Jesus and the cross, and so on, not knowing sure what to believe. Because at the same time my school science classes were telling me something very different about who I was and how I got here. The schools pretty much had me convinced I evolved from a fish, which evolved from something even lower in a warm slimy sludge. They had me convinced I was a product of random chance events and no creator was involved or needed. I did not see much of a future beyond the grave. I did not feel good about this, but who was I to argue with scientific facts! In my early 20s (a long time ago), I began to question everything I was taught. I was torn between what I was taught in church and what I was taught in school. I decided someone had lied to me and I did not like it. I still did not fully understand the whole Christianity thing and why Jesus had to die on a cross. Nevertheless, I needed to know the truth about my existence. Was I the product of a series of random accidents, or did a Supreme Being place me on this earth for a reason? I wanted to know and had to know. I had a void inside that I could not explain. I had to know why I was here and what the future held for me. This set me on a quest for the truth. The first thing I did was to go to a local bookstore and search for the truth in the occult section. Surely I can find all the answers to life on these shelves I thought. Believe it or not I did, or at least the answers started there. Right there, in the middle of all the astrologers, soothsayers, and modern day prophets, was a book titled The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey. I bought the book, read it, and it completely changed the way I looked at life. I knew I had an exciting future an exciting eternal future, if any of this were true. After reading that book, I sat down and read Genesis. An unexplainable chill came over me as I realized that I was reading actual history and not ancient myths. It actually frightened me a bit, knowing without a shadow of a doubt the events really happened. I bought another one of Hals books titled The Liberation of Planet Earth, that went into great detail of who Jesus was and is, and why God had to become a man and die on a cross. Another chill came over me as when I knew it was a historical fact that Jesus actually rose from the dead. I finally understood Gods plan from creation to eternity. The lights in my head suddenly came on. It all made sense. I then set out on a journey to study everything I could find on atheistic evolution (the type of evolution taught in public schools in the USA), and creation. All the living things around me took on new meaning. I looked at them differently. I could look at a bird or ant and I could see incredible design and purpose. I studied, in great detail, the cardiovascular and vision systems of humans. I studied the workings of the simplest life form, the cell. I concluded the chances of atheistic evolution being the process of which life evolved on earth was absolute zero, not mention the origin of life springing up from non-life in some slimy sludge also being absolute zero. No, I am not a freak of nature, but one who has an exciting destiny in eternity, and placed here for a reason by a loving Creator. Since that day in the bookstore, I have been on an incredible and exciting journey and I have never looked back. Overcome Jealousy
By Rich MacKenzie Overcoming Jealousy is one thing that all sufferers want to achieve. Jealousy is one of the cruellest behaviours that someone can conflict on themselves and their friends and family around them. If you suffer from jealousy at the moment you will understand exactly what I mean and just how devastating it can be to yourself and your relationships with people that you love. Each and every year in my Hypnotherapy clinic here in Oxfordshire I treat hundreds of individuals and couples that have suffered at the hands of jealousy for years. By the time that they come and see me the jealousy has certainly taken its toll on everything that they love and care about. It is amazing that something that starts off in our imagination can soon spark out of control and cause such devastating damage. Jealousy can be caused by many things; however it nearly always sparks from some type of insecurity. I have worked with many individuals where their jealousy started because of their partner having an affair. I have also treated individuals that put the whole thing down to being bullied at school or a parent leaving when they were young. Whatever the reason if jealousy is not dealt with then it will grow and cause major problems within current and future relationships. With clients that want my help in overcoming jealousy I use Hypnotherapy and Emotional Freedom Technique. Both therapies are very successful in treating jealousy. The Emotional Freedom Technique can work fast to alleviate all of the negative emotions associated with jealousy, while the Hypnotherapy can help them to rebuild their lives. If used over only a short period of time, Hypnotherapy and Emotional Freedom technique can help you to completely overcome your jealousy and to move on in your life. Just imagine being able to do all of the things that make you happy instead of having all of those negative thoughts and emotions running around inside your head. Imagine not having to obsess and worry over every little thing. So if jealousy is a problem for you and you would love to get rid of it and move on, then these treatments could be right for you. When picking a practitioner, make sure that they are fully qualified and insured, either contact a local Hypnotherapy or Emotional Freedom Technique organisation to get more information and to find a practitioner that is local to you. Richard MacKenzie is a leader in the field of Self Hypnosis. He is also the author of a book on Self Hypnosis called Self-Change Hypnosis. Benefits of Volunteering
By Michael Acosta The process of acquiring work related experience can be a daunting task for young individuals. Job seekers may find that getting into a given field may require past experience or training. One may find themselves asking, "How can I start at the bottom if the bottom requires prior knowledge?" One of the best ways to gain work experience is to work as a volunteer. There are numerous organizations that are desperate for individuals willing to work as volunteers. Organizations, such as nonprofit organizations, build their portions or their workforce entirely around this valuable resource. Individuals who are looking for a quick and easy way to bolster work experience will find that volunteering accommodates this need. Individuals are seldom turned away form volunteer work. Volunteer work is often based on an individuals availability. Volunteer work is revered by Human Resource professionals because volunteers do not receive any form of monetary compensation for their efforts. There are some things a person should consider when selecting a volunteer job. First, does the position involve some form of skills closely related to future employment plans? Second, does the position meet time needs? And last, can the individual meet the physical and mental requirements of the position. Ninety nine point nine percent of the time ALL volunteer work is rewarding in some way. Please keep an open mind as there are many great entities with admirable causes out there. DO NOT turn one down just because it does not help your own needs. An easy way to find volunteer work is on the internet. Have fun, be safe, and take advantage of this great system! Michael Acosta
